Genuinely did not expect a Pixar movie to have such a meaningful focus. I know they always pursue grand thenes, but they’re usually overshadowed by the plot. This movie is all about the exploration of the themes of life, death and meaning and I really like it.
I had a good time watching it but I didn’t like how it handled it’s theme. It’s pixar so of course the animation, music, etc. is top notch.
The first act sets up this version of the universe which is just the opposite of the Existentialist conception of existence. People have their personalities and purposes decided for them before their lives begin. I hated this as I watched it but was happy in the third act when one of the god like beings off handedly says something like, ’ wow you guys think you get your purpose here? Lol it’s not that simple’ but then they never bring it up or explore that idea AT ALL!
The movie spends all this time setting up this moronic understanding of how existence and meaning work then just says ‘haha nope’ and ends. But yeah, would recommend, probably one of the best movies a watched in 2020
Shout out to the Nine Inch Nails guys for recreating the soundtrack to The Sims.
I didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. At least it was better than inside out in my opinion
