I’ve used this point before, but gamers used to (probably still do) post that picture of the head of Liberty Prime from Fallout 3 saying “DEATH IS A PREFERABLE ALTERNATIVE TO COMMUNISM” in a dead world, from the disembodied head of an unliving robot, and they thought it was an endorsement. Like really guys? This was preferable? Hundreds of millions dead? Cannibalistic raiders? Human slavery? Crabs the size of football linebackers? Living in a vault as a slave to the overseer? DID WE PLAY THE SAME FUCKING GAME?!

“interpreting media” isn’t worth most people’s time. Goes double for TV, the purpose of which for most of its existence has been to provide emotional comfort and escape to the 99% of people living dreary, tiring lives.

Tbh I’m the kind of dummy-dumb who needs subtext explained to him “you do realize Tyler Durden is actually a bad guy”-style. But even then, when I watched BB I couldn’t fathom how so many hated Skylar even though for all her flaws she was actually a good person trying to piece her family back together and the only real hero in the story. Too bad the story isn’t about her but about “the quest to rediscover lost masculinity” or some shit. Sometimes I think a feminist version of BB, where Skylar is the protagonist, whose life slowly sinks into a Kafkaesque horror, would be a better show.
