The rotation of daily megathreads in random communities around the cite is a pretty good Idea. The only criticism I have of this place (for self important reasons) is that the text limit for posts/comments is kinda low so effortposts are kinda hard to pull off on here. I wanna be able to ramble myself into a coma damnit
I think the text limit is somethin like 10k? (don’t quote me on that, I’m waiting out a 3 day suspension) I’d be cool with a simple doubling, somewhere around 8k. Also, I’m open to an approved user feature seems like it would really cut down on the wrecker drama bs
On the vast majority of subjects, I don’t have to write defensively. I won’t be intentionally misinterpreted by seven hundred stupid nerds if I say something that’s true except in the case of alien fucking invasion.
Really freeing
I’d say it’s better than the subreddit. There are growing pains with it and the smaller community magnifies the drama of individual posters, but it replaced most of reddit for me pretty quickly. The subcommunities allow for some really neat topical discussions that wouldn’t happen on other socialist websites with one feed.
It’s responsive to self-criticism in a productive way. When the transphobia was called out, the mods actively tried to get rid of the transphobic trolls and then there was an ongoing theory session to make people on the fence aware of the marginalised group’s struggle.
The downvote removal made it less of a negative place than reddit.
This is about the only place on the internet where I’m honestly feel like I’m treated in good faith and comment threads don’t feel adversarial (usually)
