How are we doing folks? We haven’t had one of these in like 2 months. I figured I’d continue this trend in @krothotkin 's absence. Are we doing anything cool or making life better for others? What’s troubling you? What’s your take on something you’re reading?
I think this time around we might have a special focus on:
-
The Derek Chauvin trial
-
The Line 3 struggle
-
The Austin, TX criminalization of the homeless vote
-
Practical praxis guides
Black Reconstruction in America by WEB Du Bois. Been thinking a lot about the contrasting class dynamics of slaves vs. white workers before and during the civil war, and how so much about those dynamics between freed black people and white workers still shape class struggle and divisions among the working class today.
Yes, there are a lot of parallels to our present circumstance. It’s actually depressing how little has really changed structurally since then.
This Comm’s relative inactivity is bumming me out. I don’t come on this site all that much anymore, but each time I do lately, it feels more and more like it’s becoming more of an MLM Haven. It’s fine that it is — they’re entitled to a space to call their own, but as someone who leans fairly sharply into AnCom territory, I don’t feel particularly welcome here anymore, and I miss the days when I did. If anyone feels the same, or better yet, knows where all the Anarchist Chapoids seem to have flown off to, I’d love to hear about it.
I try to ignore most of the stuff about Gulags and China, but I definitely see what you mean. I’m trying to recultivate some Anarchism in this space, but there’s pushback every so often.
I also mainly come here for the memes, though.
There’s a post on the front page directly comparing the American media’s fear mongering about Xi Jinping, the literal ruler of a country, to anti-jewish propaganda in nazi-Germany, so yeah, the China stanning is getting hard to ignore. Ah well. Thanks for fighting the good fight, comrade.
Honestly those last two have been on my mind a lot would really love any guidance on some quick resources to provide people on best praxis for aiding homeless.
Some recent discussion on hexbear ive really thought a lot was the connection of homeless folks to internal refugees. That in context of the atx criminalization RIGHT after the deadly freeze is just really sick
Contact the Austin DSA, they’ve been really good in this regard. They’ve been doing campaigns to get this shit noticed (They’ve got phonebanks and the like available for non-local people). If you don’t like their strategy, contact other orgs in the city. This can and will be used as a proof of concept by shitheads sooner rather than later.
Work has gotten more stressful and eaten into all the other things I want to do in life right now. I’m still hoping to finish a write-up I promised someone here on the LTV.
COVID is still here and my country is a bit slower at vaccinations, but I want to hold an anti-capitalist party in the yard now that things are a bit warmer. The pandemic crushed any organizing chances in my city, but here we are a fucking year later, and we’re all just… back to work, now with no visiting friends or political organizing of any kind. So I want to get the juices flowing a bit and bring people back in contact with each other.
I’m back comrades
