eh I like the way it turbocharged lemmy (and I only browse there with libreddit when it gets linked or comes up in search results so nothing is changing for me really )

I mean there’s a lot of shitty redditors flowing into lemmy, but at least its mostly the leftlib anti-corporate redditors, a lot of them aren’t even hardline anti-communists which is nice. If mastodon is anything to go by, lemmy will remain a viable if niche alternative and the enshittification will continue, driving further waves of people away.

Its not like the less reactionary posters are just gone, they’ve just dispersed to elsewhere on the internet (or will cave and go back to reddit soon, hard to say)

people on lemmy and lemmygrad are aware of us but since we don’t seem to have any intent to federate and we basically use a totally overhauled version of their site from several years ago, why would they consider us part of the network. Even our new instance is definitely modified from base lemmy, though less heavily than here (totally custom frontend)

I don’t think we really want to be part of it either… even federating with lemmygrad would cause so much struggle session and moderation difficulties because of the culture we’ve developed, and differing views on certain topics, let alone federating with lib instances

oh god are we doing the “DAE school is a prison” thing again?

Why can you not accept that while not for everyone, being a parent is an important part of life (as in it literally makes human life possible), and for many is very rewarding. All the fucking issues with raising kids is because america also forces people, except the wealthy, to work full time or more through their child’s upbringing.

raising kids should not be seen as a way of finding meaning for the sake of finding meaning,

Good thing he didn’t say that then. It’s a fundamental part of life because it literally enables the existence of future generations of humanity. Human life doesn’t happen without parents. It’s fine to not want kids, its not a fundamental part of every single individual’s life, but it is a fundamental part of life as a whole, for the species.

you know I never considered this as an option but we should federate with toots.matapacos.dog

What’s hilarious is how old the slur filter discourse is. It actually has not been hardcoded for years, and since they added multi language support I don’t think it’s even populated by default anymore because of too many false positives, but because of some heated GitHub arguments and Hackernews comments from ages ago it’s still sucking up oxygen in conversations about Lemmy to this day

its really easy, he just doesn’t fucking want to participate. he wants to scroll a feed pre-curated for him by powerusers and mods and do nothing besides occasionally upvote and comment. he could easily create a comm for f1 or tennis if none exist, but he’s just salty every community under the sun doesn’t already exist for him to peruse. Reddit also didn’t have this at the beginning.

Okay I’m going to see if vlemmy blocks lemmygrad so I can go say this there

Yeah this is probably going to have to be taken seriously. imagine if a wrecker could just embed a tracking pixel in their comment and have the IP of everyone on the page that wasn’t using a VPN

My recollection is that current hexbear only directly embeds from a whitelist of known sites (not necessarily trusted, just big and not actively malicious), we seem to directly embed from imgur for example, but for most things we generate and serve from hexbear.net our own thumbnail.

it’s ominous but under no circumstances should you side with the “pro-lgbt bourgeoisie”

I think the critical mistake here is assuming that corporations are in some way democratic and are simply listening to consumers. They aren’t. If anything I’d just say that the media winds are shifting moreso than actual opinions shifting en masse (the media do froth up a dangerous minority of chuds into a rage causing actual danger tho)

the latter part where they have a struggle session over it we might be, but yah, a website descended from an english language sub will likely have that.
