That was the result of someone who is no longer part of the admin team, and we have established clear boundaries regarding the use of siteban on hexbear users to prevent this from occurring again.

What you described is exactly how this should have been handled, and we are working to establish a process for every decision along those lines going forward.

The only explanation I can give is that from the perspective of the mods discussing this change the gossip and counterprop communities would be a near 1:1 replacement for the communities just divided a little bit differently, while cth and main could serve as places for anything people did not feel was appropriate for the new communities.

Grave mistakes were also made in how the change was announced as well as the follow-up reasoning, clearly everyone would have been better served by handling this in a more transparent way with the ability for users to give their input, and I hope that the entire mod team and I can do the work to repair the damage done by the past couple days.

The person who was making the alts was not a mod and does not have any unbanned hexbear accounts, the instance they were using to make the wrecker alts has been temporarily removed from our allow-list.

At this moment, I will not nor ever in the foreseeable future step down. I live in a small and inconsequential part of the world, and the opportunity to steward a project that improves lives in the world is one of the most important things I can do.

We will change the internal system to increase transparency and get user input, but we want to wait a few weeks for things to settle down before opening up a new front.
