Talked to my mom (Warren supporter) today about the election and said that even if Biden wins, the argument for nominating him has been totally destroyed by the demographic trends we’re seeing, and that the loss of the working class and Latinos bodes really poorly. Interestingly she seemed to agree completely, and think that it should have been Bernie.
Interesting to note that according to NYT exit polls, Trump won with white voters under 30.
In some ways, I wonder if this result—assuming Biden does in fact win—was the best “the left” could have hoped for from this general (speaking purely in terms of the presidency, not downballot). Trump is out of office, but all the demographic arguments for Biden’s nomination have been proven wrong, and a lot of libs are shell-shocked and frustrated by the close shave. Now the task is to put up opposition to what will almost certainly be a failed administration, without any of Obama’s halo to bale it out.
There will almost certainly be a primary in '24. Joe Biden is not actually fit for office, and will be even less so in four years. He’s just an empty suit, and Kamala is the one the Dems actually want.
I also think that BLM is going to be a key opening. Biden’s position on it is terrible and totally at odds with the wave sweeping the country, and with no Trump he will become the figurehead of the state that they’re protesting against. Maybe Corona as well, assuming he fails to improve that situation.
