TelestialBeing [he/him]
As a legitimate guess, my mom mentioned the current AG of Kentucky, known for challenging the Democratic governor’s corona measures and refusing to prosecute the Louisville killer cops. He’s a protege and possible designated successor of Mitch, and had no legal experience before becoming AG. He’s actually on the shorlist. But let’s be honest, he’s only getting in as Clarence Thomas’s replacement.
This is genuinely horrible, not just for libs. Even if they don’t have the guts or discipline to repeal Roe v. Wade, there is a very strong possibility (like >50%) that they will essentially kill the labor movement. I think they will most likely declare nationwide right-to-work, and maybe go even further like banning public-sector unions or outright moving back toward the Lochner era of striking down any and all labor regulations. It is hard to understate how bad this would be.
Overturning it would be even better for their elections. It would mean that abortion would now be on a state-by-state basis, giving them a clear thing to run on in every state election. It would be useful federally too, since it opens the hypothetical (if unlikely) possibility of a nationwide ban.
I actually took a course on the history of daily life in socialist Eastern Europe. I meant to post the reading list on old Chapo, but it died before I got the chance. I may post it on this board.
I really liked the Ender’s Game series around that age. It’s weird, because while the author is a conservative Mormon, the books themselves have a message of tolerance and inter-cultural understanding.
Legally speaking, they cannot, even if they were as disciplined and ruthless as the Republicans. They can’t filibuster, and the quorum for the Senate is 51. The only thing they can do is pack the court once they win, but even that assumes that they actually take the senate.
Less forced diversity and politics in the supreme court.
