High oil prices will definitely help out oil industry profits in the short and intermediate term. Maybe long-term people down size their cars a bit and adjust their lifestyles - which is a, uh, net positive for humanity.
Broke people in suburbs and rural areas drive Corollas or old Hyundais. They are still hurting at the pump, but not as much as a chud with an f-350. Also, broke people usually live near their jobs as much as they can.
