This is something that I’ve thinking about lately, it’s that there were only a few Soviet horror movies. On this list of over 1000 Russian films there are 6 horror films, but one is post-1991 and one is pre-1917, so really only four USSR horror films.

I’ve only seen Viy and Mister Designer and both are so much different than American horror. I’ve always believed that horror movies are an extension of societal fears, so does a lack of horror films mean a lack of fear in audiences?

“pot calling the kettle black” = good

“don’t throw stones in a glass house” = good

“whataboutism” = bad, somehow

Also just finished reading earlier this week. The most haunting part was learning that a decent portion of the killing was done by non-military, non-police locals. Neighbors killing neighbors because of anticommunist propaganda and state terror. I hate how much I can see a similar campaign happening in America, so many bloodthirsty conservatives ready for murdering communists to be legal.

Spoke with a self-proclaimed apolitical guy once, middle-aged white guy who makes six figures and has plenty of hobbies. He had good opinions about endless wars, social welfare, and the criminal justice system. And he hated politicians just as much as any revolutionary would. However, he thought that the solution to America’s problems is generational change and electoralism.

Apolitical people don’t care about politics because they don’t need to. They can hate the system as much as anyone, but they recognize that the system benefits them and therefore don’t demand a new system.

Empty words for a near-impossible task. You can’t imprison “enemy non-combatants” on American mainland nor can you commit political suicide by deporting them to their home country.

What’s even the point of promising this? What undecided voter is dying on this hill?

In an interview, Mr. Barreto said that his concerns about the finances of the religious organization became the main driver for staying in the hotel. He called it his patriotic duty as an American citizen, likening his efforts to someone having been able to stop one of the hijackers before the Sept. 11 attacks. “I’m sorry I disrupted your attempt to finance weapons of mass destruction,” Mr. Barreto said. “It’s Mickey Barreto versus North Korea.”

Holy shit, this is the funniest thing I’ve read in a hot minute
