I get it’s upstream but maybe you could recommend this to the devs, cause from what I understand they like the feature: allow it to be a configurable setting in a user’s pref’s (or even on a single post - it’s nice to have the auto-refresh if you’re looking at the top of a megathread sorting by new, for example).

Just started The Ecology of Freedom by Bookchin.

I mean I don’t hate my dad. And I don’t hate the people that have been duped into thinking he’s cool or inspiring or w/e. Musk himself sucks ass because he is responsible for immiserating his workers, workers in the global south, and workers in general.

If you’re reading Bookchin you know how flowery his prose can be, haha. I’ve just finished the introductions but that is especially true so far. Because the scope of the work is so large (trying to lay out his ethics / framework for interpreting society), he sometimes slips into these really expansive abstractions, and it can be hard to understand the core of what it is he’s trying to get across. That being said, it’s not always the case, and at other times he can be very clear. Like I’ve said, I’ve only read his introductions, where he’s trying to summarize his entire book into a few dozen pages.

He summarizes his goal for the book like so - “The title of the book, The Ecology of Freedom, is meant to express the reconciliation of nature and human society in a new ecological sensibility and a new ecological society - a reharmonization of nature and humanity through a reharmonization of human with human.” That sentence pretty much encapsulates how much I personally know about Bookchin’s work, and it’s an idea that’s really interesting to me. That’s why I picked up the book, to try to get a deeper understanding of what that reharmonization looks like in his mind.
