im gonna explain this briefly for the cisfolks in the audience. every socialist trans person who frequents irl trans communities will eventually encounter this phenomena. trans people who get surgeries quickly do not have the same material conditions as those without. this has less to do with white privilege (though there is an intersectional component) and more to do with material wealth. trans people without surgeries have many legal and social barriers to employment, legal gender change, and so on. this leads to discrimination. since contra has been rich for some time, she was able to avoid almost all in-person discrimination. she works via video chat, which means she is self employed and has never properly had to deal with anything truly terrible happening, such as long bouts of unemployment which drain surgery funds. this means she has avoided radicalization and instead wants to protect her income stream.

roughly 90% of the trans people I have talked to in person are hardcore socialists, and i talked to them in non-socialist spaces. the socdem backsliding contra exhibits is based on her material conditions of not dealing with discrimination in person regularly. as an aside: the 10% of trans people that i talked to that weren’t socialists were evenly divided between liberals, libertarians, and fascists. they all got their surgeries very quickly.
