Luv 2 have to wake up before dawn and drive for 45 minutes to somewhere I don’t want to go without getting paid for it seriously why aren’t we paid for every single second we have to give to work including the time we have to put in to getting to work
Some years ago I transferred to the big state college, but since it’s pretty much impossible for transfer students to score housing anywhere (affording it is another story) and parking was expensive, I needed to get up at 4 am each day to catch a bus that ran only like 3 times each morning. The commute (drive from home to stop + bus to school and vice versa) would take about 90 minutes to 2 hours each way not counting the wait time for the bus. I’d get home most nights around 8:30-9 pm because of the way my daily schedule lined up with the bus schedule; I was out about 4 hours longer each day than my parents were for their commutes/workdays. The lack of downtime (being on campus leaves no room on my mind for anything but work), skipped meals, missed sleep, freezing ass weather all wore me down pretty quickly, and after about a month and a half I stopped going to class altogether.
30 minute commute here. It’s not the worst I’ve had, but it’s so frustrating. I don’t have any reasonable options for public transit to my job.
60 minutes bus gang
it sucks but much less
commuting is fucking dogshit and the stress of driving in rush hour has taken years off my life. As an office worker the pandemic has exposed just how unnecessary an office is for bs office jobs and it’s fantastic. Gives us so much more leverage to look for positions that allow you to work from home full time.
The literal only reason for most office workers to go to an office is so some middle manager can justify their paycheck. (And probably, I assume, there’s some tax reasons for the business. I wouldn’t be surprised anyway.)
so dumb. I have no idea how efficient my bus connection will be, so my commute could be a half hour (if everything works perfect) or like an hour and 20 minutes. so basically I need to assume it will take the longer, and if i just get to work early, so be it. if i arrive early by chance of bus schedule, I’m just going to leave early too…
thankfully, i am just on a ‘35 hour a week’ schedule, with a basic 9-5 in mind, but has wiggle room since i don’t really have a boss in my center specifically. I honestly don’t even know why I need to go in every day (am gonna try to shoot to work from home a couple days a week, once i get on the good side of the people in my center).
today I worked from home and was able to start early, get a ton of work done before noon, when normally a chunk of the time would be wasted getting up, eating, and commuting…
