I hear a ton about US foreign policy, and how awful it is. But I don’t think it should be surprising that people are more immediately focused on issues that personally affect them.

I had a pronounced phase in my political development where I only cared about domestic issues - I was always confused by the comrades engaging with me about the primacy of anti-imperialism. It seems obvious now, not sure what really pushed me over the edge. Probably just beginning to pay attention and learning the history of US foreign policy and how inexcusable it is.
Also, learning the class character of NATO helped.
Because most of the loudest US “leftists” are social democrats who want free healthcare and a living wage but uphold imperialism no questions asked.
