I mean, taking the side of Russia here is pretty cringe. The correct position is neither Russia nor NATO is behaving acceptably. Both disrespect the right of the people in the former Ukrainian breakaway regions to self-determination. Only a peaceful, fair vote of the public should be considered deciding in this matter. Any other position is merely funneling more blood into the mouths of the warmongering ghouls who stand to profit from this.
No fair vote will be ever accepted by the West and Ukraine and it will be treated no different from the referendum, even more so if it’s the expected 60-65% and as a result no one is gonna be conducted and there is no way to ensure it can be conducted by some " 3rd party "?
So that positions leaves the people of the era with no possibility of self determination. From my view and knowledge I think it’s clear that self determination on the issue for the majority (majority, not bs 95% numbers of course) is towards joining Russia which is something that’s very logical to assume a majority wants when you look at any perspective (ethnic, lingual, political, historical) as well as opinion polls for decades, without any “Putin coercion”. I think it was that way in 2000,2005,2010 etc .
Do I guess I’d rather " support" them staying with Russia as long as I can gauge that it’s their majority opinion instead to play Pontius Pilate again
Its framing doesn’t seem to - Russia may use their self-determination as a chip in their political game, but no one should make the mistake of thinking that is their reason for these actions. This is about NATO for them. I can understand, and even broadly accept, that their complaints about the terrorist organization NATO are based on legitimate misdeeds by NATO, but that doesn’t change the fact that Donetsk and Luhansk will suffer in warfare for Russian geopolitical interests, not the democratic will of their people.
Maybe you should read up on the Minsk Agrement and check whos in violation of it…
over [Russia’s] attempt to support the people of the Donbas and defend their territory in Crimea
cringe
If the majority of people in Crimea (and I’m not saying 90%+ like the ref but the majority which is pretty uncontroversial knowing anything about the region and people) want to join Russia and leave Ukraine like that have wanted for decades for obvious reasons the where is the issue. I thought we were for the right of secession for a people
i don’t think the government of russia gives a shit about the people of donbas
obviously it does , like obviously they are russian speakers and passport holders. Putin to has puplic pressure on him , he can not simply stand by when the ukraine does what it does to russian speakers… his image is that of a Protector ,so he has to protect …
I always thought it was a sub for weird European ML or Labor supporters.
It’s a bit broader than that. UK leftists in general with lurking americans.
Oh I always thought green and pleasant was a reference to Ireland. The IRA are of course the most based organization in the region. (Maybe not the provos but I don’t know enough about them to really be sure(but if you do think the provos are based please educate me))
Oh I always thought green and pleasant was a reference to Ireland
Nah it’s just a song lyric from Jerusalem which is used both ironically and unironically in the left while being unironically the favourite song of flag shaggers who fucking hate the left using it.
The Provos are based. The whole IRA is based, even the factions killing one another in the troubles. I genuinely think irish music is a great ideological intro to the IRA, in that folk songs and things meant to be sung at pubs reflect the beliefs of a group in a really raw and effective manner.
