In many western countries, especially the US, propaganda is so strong that it’s no longer perceived as propaganda anymore, but just becomes “facts”. This means that people are so confident in US State Department narrative they cannot even conceive of anything outside of it, the idea that people can think something else is not only something they haven’t considered, but they have a mental block preventing them from even considering it.

This is where the Russiagate and “wumao” stuff originates. They are so convinced of the US State Department narrative that they think anyone who disagrees can’t actually disagree, because it’s just “facts” that “everyone knows is true”. So if you do disagree, then you must be lying about your beliefs, you must be a paid actor of some kind.

This also gets into why they’re so ready to support US interventions and wars. They genuinely believe the US State Department narrative is universal, that it’s something everyone agrees with. So they think that people in foreign countries all agree with the US narrative too. If you have video of them saying they don’t? Well, “there must be a hidden sniper forcing them to say that!”

So, in their minds, all Chinese people agree with the US State Department narrative. They all hate the Chinese government and want to see it overthrown. They’re all secretly begging for their white saviors to come save them, but you just don’t see that happening because they are forced to pretend they don’t.

So these people feel like they’re being “heroes” by constantly spamming stuff in support of what they view as prisoners in a nation-sized prison begging to be released. They think that they are “good people” by constantly bringing it up, that it makes them virtuous and that it’s a form of activism to constantly mention it.

You have to remember that liberals are, well, liberal, they’re very individualistic. They’re convinced change is not brought about by collective action but through virtuous and heroic individuals. They thus have a tendency to strongly overestimate what their own actions are doing, and to actually view what they’re doing as real activism.

In their mind, by “speaking up for the Chinese”, they think they’re actually doing something good and virtuous that is making a difference. They like to imagine that maybe a Chinese person with a VPN sees all the heroic Americans saying “west Taiwan” and reddit and gets a smile on their face knowing the good redditors are fighting for his freedom.

That’s actually how they think. Legitimately.

Liberals cannot fathom people that do not want war with Russia, they can actually, but it’s republicans, because they’re all on the take from Putin. I’d bet money a lot of this is personal over Putin “putting” Trump in the white house. We’ve been beating the drum of war against Russia non-stop in the liberal media with the phony Russiagate nonsense. Now the libs are salivating over some “payback” for cheeto benito, aligning themselves with actual neo-nazis.

Liberals cannot fathom people that do not want war with Russia,

Liberals believe their tottering institutions are the only thing holding civilization together. It is literally the thin blue line mindset, but instead of for roided out freaks who tortured animals in their childhood, it’s for a bunch of decomposing septuagenarians with coffee breath and bad toupees sitting in marble buildings.

Democracy hangs on by a thread and the forces of illiberalism are battering the gates. Now is not the time to introduce any additional instability. We must trust the plan and crush anybody who threatens it. When our legitimacy is threatened, it tautologically serves the right. After all, only we are capable of ensuring the the flame of Liberal Democracy survives through the darkness of night.

They understand that people don’t want another fucking imperialist war, but they view this position as naive. The US (and by extension, Democracy itself) is a laughing stock, and it needs to put its foot down. “You’re either with us, or against us.”

I took that grill pill for a while but the effects are temporary. After a while you realize that they aren’t sending their kids to fight, they are sending you and your kids. And all western propaganda is part of a web that needs to be untangled at every single point at once, so we can’t selectively ignore imperialism anyway.

Yeah that’s cringe but thinking that “Russia is supporting the people of Donbass in their fight against the fascist Ukrainian state” is also a very bad take, Russia doesn’t give a fuck about the people of Donbass, they want to have their naval route to the Mediterranean.

Massive generalisation, of course the Russian state is acting cynically, it’s a state, but there’s large chunk of the Russian population however who are genuinely worried about the fate their co-linguists in the Donbas under potential Banderite fascism

I didn’t specify because i thought it was obvious that i meant the russian state when i said Russia. For the civilian population it can certainly be appealing that they go there to defend their fellows.

Besides a few pockets of Russian speakers in places like the Donbass in Eastern Ukraine, Crimea, and Northern Georgia the Russian language is in major decline in all former soviet states outside Russia itself and Belorussia. National language policies in former soviet states have created entire generations who did not have to take Russian in school. Something like less than 30% of citizens of former soviet states have any ability to understand Russian, that demographic skews older, and without younger generations gravitating towards Russian cultural/media/political/science institutions any sort of peaceful influence Russia has in those states is coming to an end.

Putin’s calculus on Donbass is the same as Crimea. With the rapid decline in Russian speakers in former soviet satellite states there will soon be no excuses to invade and obtain a path to the Mediterranean for any future Russian government. War now, deal with the fallout like in Crimea, or never have the chance to secure a warm water port for Russia ever.

Yeah their motives aren’t really just supporting them out of the goodness of their hearts. I agree. I don’t think the post implies that by saying supporting them though, it just doesn’t go into any detail about WHY they’re supporting them.

GaP definitely doesn’t think Russia are the goodies here.

Insufficient hedging detected. A meeting with the People’s Nuance Council has been scheduled. Failure to refrain from excessively hot takes prior to clearance by the council may result in further warnings.

If you have questions or believe that your take was sufficiently nuanced and that we are the true essentialists in this situation, please contact our sister organization, the Nuance Origination Union (NO U).

Yeah pretty much.

Problem is that any attempt to make something snappy and to the point start to fly out the window when you have to hedge the topic with the entire history that led up to the situation going back to stepan bandera in ww2.

That’s some dumb lib talking point. They already have Crimea, they don’t need the Donbass for that.

They have Crimea but Ukrainian fash want it back and their easiest way to do that is joining NATO and provoking a full frontal war over it.

Meh, they have crimea already, but donetsk have coal and heavy industry. Anyway that’s irrelevant, because the point is to freeze nato joining via autonomy rights or frozen conflict a la transnistria.

I mean yeah, but the reason they want Ukraine to not join NATO is to 1. be a buffer 2. if Ukraine joins NATO they are obliged by design to send their troops there to take back Crimea and Donbass since the reason NATO was formed is to assure its members territorial integrity. So the main reason is still that they don’t want to let go of the virtually annexed territories.

For Russia, the strategic value of Donbass is to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO. If Minsk II is enforced, Ukraine will be more federalized and the Donbass territories will be able to prevent joining NATO. The current limbo is almost as good as enforcing Minsk II in that regard

Russia won’t gain greater access to the Mediterranean from Donbass. It already got its main Black Sea deep water port in Sevastopol and Donbass is actually Northeast of it. Also Istanbul, which is in a NATO country, could already block Russia’s access to the Mediterranean any time it wanted.

Thanks, someone understood what i wanted to say.

Though i don’t get why everyone thinks that if Russia invades, which is unlikely, they would stop at Donbass. Going as far as Crimea seems to be the logical solution.

Istanbul could block access to Russia but Putin has been doing great favors for Erdogan in Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh in order to not use it. Hungary is also a NATO member but they refused to host US soldiers since this whole debacle started.

How the hell is Donbass going to give the Russians a naval route to the Mediterranean that they don’t already have with Crimea? Russia just wants Ukraine as a buffer state against NATO to protect the Russian heartland.

You’re not saying anything i disagree with here. But stopping at Donbass would be a mistake if they were invading imo.

Oh I always thought green and pleasant was a reference to Ireland. The IRA are of course the most based organization in the region. (Maybe not the provos but I don’t know enough about them to really be sure(but if you do think the provos are based please educate me))

The Provos are based. The whole IRA is based, even the factions killing one another in the troubles. I genuinely think irish music is a great ideological intro to the IRA, in that folk songs and things meant to be sung at pubs reflect the beliefs of a group in a really raw and effective manner.

Also see the Columbia three, 3 Provos who went to train the FARC and only in 2020 received amnesty

Nah it’s just a song lyric from Jerusalem which is used both ironically and unironically in the left while being unironically the favourite song of flag shaggers who fucking hate the left using it.
