*slightly more secure than going CLOSED SPECIES DONUT STEEL, by virtue of how awful the art is.

A closed species is a fictional species that is claimed to be owned by someone who limits the way in which new characters can be created. Most (if not all) closed species are claimed to be protected under copyright, but a species is too broad of an idea to be protected by copyright, and therefore they aren’t.

I think @alcoholicorn is saying because the art is so shitty, no one really wants to steal the apes for their own sake. This makes the bored ape “species” safer from “theft” than if they had actually made a well executed art piece and made efforts to stop people from “stealing” / using it.

The difference is many furries are actually somewhat decent at creating art, unlike pretty much every NFT scheme.

Furries are cool and based.

That’s what I’m saying though? Furries create actual decent looking art instead of ugly stuff cobbled together by an algorithm.

The big NFTs are mostly art assets that are randomly put together to form a set of exclusives.

Furries are supporters of actual artists, they spend significant amounts of money that directly goes to artists when they buy commissioned furry art. Even if it may also be pornography that other people might cringe at.

Edit: I had a thought and tried to find an article about how some artists might be upset at being forced to make furry art, since there is money in it, but couldn’t. There are some reactionary anti-furry tweets and r*ddit posts about people requesting their art and being nitpicky about the work or people not paying.

But all the interviews with artists I could find show them being very happy about the work. I was thinking I might find some evidence of artists treating making furry commissions like it was creating an onlyfans. Making any kind of art is probably pretty fulfilling, especially when they can get paid for it.

Good point, thanks. I guess the awkwardness keeps their art from being commodified like anything else people notice others are spending money on.

:screm-a: why would this be compelling to literally anyone

they can’t even bother to give the character a name, its just “this NFT”.

why would anyone care about A 3d Model Styled After The NFT (which is itself a combination of features produced by a damned slot machine, lacking any significance outside an artificial scarcity) when its promoters cannot even distinguish the original instance with its own name

Bro this is gonna be such a fucking clown era when we look back on it in 15 years, just the highest levels of cringe.

When crypto horse shit is integrated so deeply into the economy that the collapse literally kills tens of thousands of people and immiserates millions, we’re gonna spend years picking up the pieces and being like

“Whoa what the fuck, here’s one from the NFL. And Disney. And the US state department. And the Catholic Church. All selling the NFT ponzi scheme to people”

Haha legitimacy go clank clunk

There won’t be any pieces to pick up because it’s all computer nonsense that stops existing when the plug is pulled

Yeah I suppose pieces of our lives, rather than pieces of the ethereal non-economy

Every time I end up on crypto-twitter a wave of depression washes over me. I know, rationally, that these are people, but there is no humanity there, no spark of the divine, only increasingly confusing terminology, thinly veiled scams and secret handshakes. It feels like these conversations should be illegal, but you can’t even say what ‘it’ is, if not an act of auto-erotic scam-based public humiliation ritual designed to squeeze a few more PMC’s before the whole system collapses.
