They targeted gamers. Gamers.

And for good reason, too.

those horny gamers are of course wrong but sex work is an oppression just like wage work , I don’t think we should praise sex work. Solidarity with sex workers, that are exploited just like any worker.

They also release their games DRM free (on GOG, their own platform) which is unusual for AAA games

I’m kinda dumb and don’t really know how to pirate safely, I used fitgirl a few times, and a direct downloader once or twice, and I got the email thing from comcast saying they got mad at me, and got too freaked out

Someone recently made a piracy 101 two part thread here on the lemmy that’s a good place to start. Using a VPN should keep you mostly safe AFAIK (I’ve been torrenting with one for about a year and haven’t run into any issues). I’m far from an expert though so I’d give the thread a look.

I definitely second pirating CDPR’s stuff given their scummy labor practices, if it’s feasible. And honestly, more broadly, having access to a wide range of human culture and art separate from the material barriers set up by the profit motive/commodity form is just incredibly liberating and humanizing. Piracy is (95% of the time, try not to pirate indie games and the like if you can afford it) dope.

Fitgirl is the way to go right now for the least amount of hassle.

You get emails from your ISP mainly by seeding so if you download a torrent just make sure to stop the upload after it finishes and close out of the torrent software completely.

There’s no need to pre-order any game when you can just buy it digitally Day 1 when the reviews are out

Pre-loading would be the only reason I would pre-order. I did it with Animal Crossing so I could already have it installed and play it the second it unlocked lol. Generally pre-orders are fucking stupid and I wait for reviews though.

That’s fair. And if you have the ability to refund then it isn’t so bad anyways

They are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dndx4OnfXaY https://www.pcgamer.com/cd-projekt-red-responds-to-employee-complaints-says-its-approach-is-not-for-everyone/

Pre-ordering gets you a handful of tat that you will presumably be able to buy separately after it comes out if you really like it and won’t care to have if the game ends up being bad.

Pre-ordering is dumb but I did it anyways so that I didn’t have to think about it when it came out. I hardly ever pre-order or buy things at full price (thanks to Steam sales and my infinite level of patience).
