You no longer have an excuse to be on :reddit-logo: outside niche hobby subreddits.
what the fuck
Pretty sure GenZhou started so it wouldn’t have the same shitpost-y, problematic, vapid content as GenZedong. I doubt it had nearly as much of a Ukraine conflict misinfo problem as GenZedong (which was supposedly the problem :reddit-logo: wanted to resolve).
The misinfo stuff is just to make libs turn off their brain, so reddit can do its thing unopposed.
I am aware that reddit’s moderation decisions can’t be taken in good faith, I’m thinking out loud about how silly it is to ban a lefty sub with a high level of discourse for being associated with a quarantined shitpost sub that had a misinformation problem. It reveals that misinformation wasn’t their problem, they simply didn’t want that kind of lefty discourse, and are looking for any rationale to silence it.
Ha! The lib dipshits have proven for the 9999999th time they aren’t morally consistent, surely their “power” will automatically self destruct now.
Mr r*ddit mod, ahem, mr pedophile, sir, you are fired

It’s weird that they even keep up the pretense of impartial moderation. I’ve never understood the preoccupation that people in power have with doing things “Legally”. Like you can’t just bring the hammer down, you have to have a process and appeals and all sorts of other pageantry first, then you crush any pretense of dissent. It’s like the police writing up endless reams of paperwork to document and justify why they beat the shit out of minority kids, when they could just as easily beat the shit out of minority kids and not document it, saving both labor and paper while achieving the same outcome.
Reddit doesn’t have to pretend, they can just ban leftists because they want to. But they still go through all this bullshit instead of just purging the site.
Look at their new Director of Policy, it’s not about misinformation. Don’t know this website but there’s other sources too.
I was subbed there, and I seriously can’t remember seeing anything about Ukraine at all. Pretty weird they would ban it before gzd, did not see that coming at all.
It was more educational and typically well sourced so it makes sense that it would scare libs more than GZD. If you think like a lib for a moment, fash memes are way more acceptable than like out and out nazi theory would be.
Definitely surprising though. Maybe they wanted to test the ban reception on a smaller, fringier group first?

I would posit the following.
Reddit can do whatever the fuck it wants and just ignore anyone who complains. They banned The_Dickwads and nothing happened. They’re sure as hell not going to get any blowback from pissing off a bunch of scruffy leftist shitposters.
I think they do the quarantines and shit to covince themselves that they are impartial arbiters protecting the integrity of the forum. It’s like a psychological defense. They don’t want to admit that they’re arbitrarily using their power to crush ideas they disagree with. That’s what bad guys do, and they’re good guys, so they wouldn’t do that. Instead they have a bullshit process that insulates them from taking responsibility from their reactionary actions. As long as they’re following a process and providing justifications for their actions at every step then they can crush dissent while still telling themselves that they’re a bastion for free speech on the internet.
Me? I’d just fucking slam the ban button on anything I found even mildly annoying then record and post react videos where I laugh at people’s feeble, powerless objections, because I understand that power is violence and hurting people who oppose your goals and aims is good.
TLDR; fucking useless libs
It’s not lost, /u/SeattleML archived all of the posts up to last week thankfully https://www.reddit.com/r/GenZedong/comments/tvxix0/rgenzhou_just_got_banned/i3byihu/

It turns out that privatizing the forum was as bad an idea as privatizing the commons.
Because our abilities to socialize, to express ourselves, to collaborate, and to construct our identities are all commonly held assets, as abstract as that is. There are so many situations and products whose value increases as more people participate. With the internet, these have potential to create mass swaths of value simply by gathering large amounts of people. Since bandwidth is cheaper than land and development, it lowers the barriers to gathering that large amount of people. So the tech cartel have taken control of the means by which those gatherings can occur and made them artificially scarce.
Why’d they bad GenZhou? It was far less popular and more level headed then GenZeDong. Did GenZhou even go through a quarantine period? Did someone at Reddit miss the “ban gzd button” and accidentally hit the “ban GenZhou button”?
If I were Reddit and wanted to get the commies off my site once and for all, I’d see the banning of r/CTH as a failure. We scattered and couldn’t centralize content “democratically”, but most of us didn’t leave. They took away our toys but didn’t send us to our room. They may be banning these sister subs earlier this time to give people the message that they’re supposed to move to lemmygrad.
I think it isn’t about getting us off but to slow down our agitation by disorganizing and discrediting. In that sense, keeping communities dispersed makes sense. CTH and GZD have been banned when they started gaining momentum. Normies won’t move to lemmygrad because they aren’t commies yet, and making extra accounts on other sites is an extra step that’ll stop a decent number of people who’d get pipelined by finding some memes relatable.
Honestly, we should be out there on single issue subs like /r/fuckcars or /r/antiwork, as well as queer subs. That’s where folks will be receptive and we’ll maintain a decent ratio.
