:reddit-logo: /r/theboys is melting down as the show continues to satirize their politics.
Amazing.
That’s it, I’m sick of missing out. I’m pirating S1 as we speak
: ( I saw some of the gross-out scenes and it turned me off to the whole notion. I spend enough time reading about regular people who committed horrific acts of violence and genocide. I don’t want to watch people with superpowers do it as entertainment.
I remember this already happened for season 2.
Are some The Boys fans going to be on a perpetual loop of finding out that the show is political and crying about it?
I honestly don’t understands how chuds could ever like the show. It heavy handedly makes fun of them constantly basically from episode 1
The show made fun of rainbow capitalism :capitalist-woke: a few times so chuds with their ankle deep analysis ability thought that it’s their show
they literally cannot imagine politics outside of reps vs dems, so if they see :homelander: murals with a confederate flag cape in a show that also criticizes pride commodification, they think it must be “anti-woke” until it becomes as blatantly obvious as A-Train’s recent Blue Hawk story arc.
Well there goes my hope that Soldier Boy is going to be used as a critique of Biden the same way :homelander: is clearly :trump-kaneki:
Trump’s supporters, which was 49% of the voting electorate, all think he’s devious, competent, loved by all, attractive, and a good speaker.
See the world the way the enemy sees the world.
my personal theory is that they’re
spoiler
building Homelander up like Geoffrey Lannister or Ramsay Bolton in GoT - make him as despicable as possible to kill him off in a graphic, humiliating and highly rewarding way later in the season, then use Soldier Boy as the new Homelander to a) retain a supe antagonist at the top of Vought and b) make a point that change within the system is pointless and will always only lead to more of the same.
what i’m not expecting is full Russiagate brainworms. the show’s depiction of Russia and Russians in this season is problematic, but it’s mostly the usual “eastern europe = super dangerous mafia thugs” cliché, which is still a chauvinist and prejudiced take, but probably as “harmless” as a portrayal of Russia can be in a show on Amazon Prime made in 2022.
Hasn’t Matt said something slightly similar in that these oligarch rulers are at this point pushing the war and state violence button because that’s the only power still left on their hands?
The boundless stupidity of reactionaries never ceases to amaze.
