What always surprises me is not how they misinterpret the outright text in these films. I mean, i can watch a right wing movie and develop a leftist analysis, that makes sense, but these people seem incapable of even doing that.
I mean, ok, a right wing analysis of The Boys: big government bad, vaught is doing corporatism, the boys and starlight are good because they are being the checks and balances for the system while using their liberty as individuals…
They know he’s the bad guy. They want the bad guy to be revealed to just be misunderstood and then redeemed so they don’t get uncomfortable.
Fucking amazing
Let’s cut them some slack here. While I like the fan theory that Homelander is actually a bad guy you can only really arrive at that conclusion by piecing together very subtle clues carefully hidden throughout the entire series. There are certainly hints even from the very first episode if you know where to look, but I wouldn’t expect anyone to catch them on their first or even second watch!
Also, if you want some really wild fan theories there are people building up this mythos around the Bible where Satan is actually a bad guy. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist, but there are actually passages in the Bible supporting this!

It’s like Chuds who don’t have a problem with being racist, they have a problem with being called racist because that makes it sound like they’re bad people.
End of Season 1 Episode 1 has him laser down an aeroplane with a child inside gazing at him with adoration. Within the show its the first evil act we see and it’s a bit of a twist because up until that point you’re supposed to assume he’s the only good superhero.
Turns out he’s the absolute worst and he goes on to commit more and more atrocities throughout the show.
