They have such a weird standard here. An ebike which maxes out at 20mph/32kph is allowed to use biking infrastructure, while ones that go up to 28mph/45kph are street legal but can’t use biking lanes/sidewalks. Almost all roads here have a speed limit of 30mph+ though. It makes them almost useless along with mopeds in a state where car pollution creates some of the most toxic air in the US.

If I understand correctly, the penalty for riding an over powered ebike in Colorado is only $21:

The penalty is low at least. I could see it changing for the worse with the local NIMBY opposition to rental ebikes.

I going to make a homemade ebike with a multiple kilowatt washing machine or tumble dryer motor in pure spite. And because it’s fun.

Well, I would if I had the resources to do so and lived there.

What a creation though

I DIY’d my super illegal ebike (1500 watts and goes like 30-32 mph), it was a little over $1000. If I already had a mountain bike to sacrifice it would have been about $600.

The pre-assembled ones come at a huge premium and generally won’t go faster than 25 mph without some expensive modifications.

nor do they do “damned entitlements” posts when it comes to corporations receiving huge subsidies

Muh gubmint overreach is real and annoying. You should not need a loiscence for a fucking moped.

There’s a difference between opposing listening rules because they punish working class people and opposing them out of an ideological opposition to the government doing things.

Yes obviously the state stealing and destroying someone’s bicycle is something we as leftists should support and not call out as a bad thing /s
