We are re-instituting the server whitelist. Please let us know servers that should be on the whitelist. I hope to have this done in the next few days.

what are your thoughts on lemmy.ml and lemmy.world?

are a few that I would put back on the whitelist at first, can you think of others

Before this instance (and still, I guess?) I had a few different accounts with the same user name on different instances, specifically because there was a lot of defederation going on.

It is a very mild inconvenience to switch accounts. I understand it also limits who can see what’s here, but like others have said, it also keeps this instance peaceful and friendly. People can make accounts if they would like.

I think it’s the right move, especially with people obsessed with how others run their own instances. I for one am shocked that carnists feel entitled to determine how other beings should live 🙄

I think this list is a good start. As long as there is a simple enough process to decide on what to add (or remove) it won’t matter too much if a few instances are missing for a bit. Better to gradually build up the list of federated instances than to have what happened before.

Hard pass on lemmy.world, I think it should not be considered unless a lot changes with their moderation and userbase. Currently it feels like the worst of Reddit decided to land there and I don’t see that changing any time soon. This instance will feel a lot safer to us vegans and we can discuss veganism without them manipulating the discussion with their votes. Also, those libs can’t downvote what they can’t see :)

I’m not so sure about lemmy.world. It’s not all bad but there’s also a fuck ton of liberal shit on there. A lot of the posts I see are people bitching about communism.

I have no issues with .ml personally, it’s the instance I created my main Lemmy account on and I find the people there to be more tolerable than .world.

Thanks for participating here and adding your thoughts here. This is what I am leaning towards. I know a lot of the users are essentially neutral but as the largest instance I believe they are being intentionally astroturfed.

There is a LOT of fuckery that comes from world at all levels from admin to randos.

Yeah .world seems like it’s trying to help the likes of meta and other corporate social media get a shoe in the door of the fediverse with shit like threads.

I would argue against lemmy.world as there are too many people from there who are too closed-minded.

I think it’s fine to keep lemmy.ml while operating a whitelist.

When I browse their comms locally I see some shit but from my hexbear account it’s fine.

I do question the sh.itjust.works federation though. I’ve never seen anything of value coming from that instance.

I hope you can keep this site going. I don’t contribute much as I have zero food presentation skills but I really appreciate this place existing.

Hi!

Please don’t feel like your food photo contributions are unwelcome if they aren’t polished. If I recall correctly, one of the goals of the community was to reflect real vegan food, to help demonstrate how accessable and simple it can be.

We have a fine culture of slop in this house 🏠

Thank you. I will consider posting some things but I think my brain has a really different idea of what looks good to others. I joined the discord now so I might try posting a few things there first.

Thanks for you input, to be honest I thought sh.itjust.works was different but now that I am taking a stricter look at the communities that have been federated they host some questionable things I have already blocked on the community level. I’ll see how it goes, there is a comm on there I like where we just post songs. Maybe we’ll move that to a new instance.
