Didn’t read any posts so sorry if this take is superfluous but I personally always think of it as being a “macro” good person vs a “micro” good person. Wanting everyone to have a comfortable life and basic dignity doesn’t mean you have to be personable or likable, I sure am not. And in fact many people who are good people at their core are like this. At the same time many people who are very outgoing and friendly in person are stone cold sociopaths. For example, on a personal level Bernie Sanders says he isn’t the kinds of person to wish you a happy birthday, but he wants you to have healthcare. Joe Biden is the inverse of this.

People are complicated, and can be extremely bad and extremely good at the same time.

Despising people dosen’t make you not a socialist. You don’t need to like people to want what is best for them.
