Waaah trying to fix the environment is too hard.

It’s easier to simply create a new home on a world without air, water, food or energy millions of miles away.

I know if human civilisation survives more than a million years here on earth then yeah eventually we’ll have to leave, but leaving now??? So shitty.

Even if nuclear war and complete climate catastrophe happens on Earth it’d still be more habitable than fucking Mars

Yes, but Earth had poor people 🤢

Why Mars? There’s another planet in our solar system that’s even closer and has a breathable atmosphere, a protective magnetosphere and temperatures mostly tolerable by humans. We could try to fix that place that place up first, seems like it’d be a less of a hassle

Since clearly the Earth is done for, how do you propose thinning the atmosphere of Venus?

Live in a balloon filled with breathable air.

Seriously at the altitude at which the atmosphere of Venus is 1 atm temperatures are around 40 °C and there’s winds that circle the planet every 100 hours.

Mars/Moon/Culture Orbitals are fun and cool, but they’re not solutions, they’re hobbies. It’s shit we do for fun while building Socialism, which will have the eventual nice side effect, several centuries down the line, of reducing our resource footprint on this planet to near zero.

It’s not going to bail us out of our problems, Space Solar power and mirrors might help and having some infrastructure, even some asteroid mining, is a good idea, but it’s no substitute for the hard work we need to do here.

I’d love for those people to actually fuck off to Mars. Living there is just incredibly hard, harder than living on Earth even in worst worst worst-case climate change and pollution scenarios.

How about we trick millionaires into thinking Mars is better than Earth? A reverse Psychology Elysium?

Also, humans should be forced to stay on earth.

Pulling a page from Three Body Problem / The Expanse, I’d argue that any civilization that exists outside Earth for multiple generations is functionally no longer human.
