Before 2016 all I knew about him was that one weird Senator from that tiny New England state that shouldn’t be a state anyway, listed as (I) whenever it was voting time. But he voted with the Dems anyway. On the rare occasion he came up, it was stated he was a socialist, and I chalked it up to a lily-white state’s liberals just being what they are.
The prequels sucked. There is this video by some ancient internet personality like Seanbaby who takes the movies apart bit by bit and shows exactly why they sucked. It’s funny and I watched the hell out of it back in the day.
If you’re interested, there’s a better cut of Phantom Menace called “The Phantom Edit” and it’s available on bittorrent. Someone went through and made a better movie. It’s far more watchable, and notably, Jar-jar Binks is reduced to a silent character who stands in the background of scenes.
That’s called a vow of poverty. Nobody but the Catholics ever did it.
And despite the name, it’s not “poverty” as in poor. It’s the older meaning of poverty, having enough to live and giving away the rest. Because spiritual people don’t (or shouldn’t) care about material things. They chain you to the earth, etc.
Asking socialists to take vows of poverty is dumb.
I wish I could start my own religion. I would have the most epic hat in existence. And nobody would be able to laugh at me for wearing it in public because it would be myrelgion-phobic.
It’s not a BBS. BBSes were open to the public. USENET, you had to be a university student or researcher. Internet was off-limits to normies and even when .coms started coming out, they were regarded with suspicion by the .edu base. “Eww, disgusting profit! Get off our network!”
Back in the day, Return of the Jedi was viewed as a so-so film, not up to par with the others. Nobody liked the planet of Care Bears. Even back then, it was obvious they had been made only to sell merchandise. But it was awesome to actually see Anakin Skywalker appear as a force ghost at the end!
The chuds are telling their kids to stay out of the military. This is a sea change. They were always easy to fool and recruiters were able to lure them in with easily debunked lies. Then they find themselves in Germany at the motor pool hosing out bloodsoaked APCs. Or at a base in Alabama getting sexually harassed just trying to walk down to the PX. But if the word is getting out about just how shit the US military is, this could be a real change. Making the military incompetent so it can’t fight more wars isn’t the way I thought it would go, but I’ll take it.
