Alternatively, if I still lived in South Africa - reinstate it’s nuclear weapons programme and produce say, 100 warheads at minimum, cut all ties with Israel, suspend their embassies and ambassadors, impose a no-fly zone, publicly call Obama a “wee daft knob-head” and begin the process of nationalization of several industries such as housing, mining and healthcare.
Among actual projects - Building offshore wind turbines off the coast of Cape Town, Nelson Mandela Bay and possibly East London, building wind turbines in the mountains, possibly build several solar farms in the western half of the country, build HSR that connects the cities of Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, along with other major cities on the way, in addition to a second HSR line along the coast, mass construction of prefab high-rises in all cities, wastewater treatment and desalination projects and also establish a citizen’s militia.
*Of course, I don’t think the US will accept my demands to have Elon Musk extradited to the now-established “Islamic Democratic People’s Republic of South Africa” to have him executed by a 12-man squad, each armed with a fully loaded Galil for a total of 420 rounds.
Atm, since COVID is the biggest issue here in the US - idk fuck it, I’d call all the troops home and use them to quarantine/declare martial law/distribute food, water, masks, vaccines, etc. in regions where the virus is exploding and/or local officials are unwilling to comply with federally mandated mask requirements and lockdowns.
Following that, with huge portions of the population off the streets we sort out (mostly in this order) universal healthcare, publicly owned infrastructure projects (trains), and free housing and education. Somewhere in there we start developing a green energy grid in earnest and do anything else important that I forgot. Oh yeah and no rent and everyone gets a check every month for however long this shit lasts.
Bing bang boom we re-enter a much less shit country than the one we had pre pandemic. Way long term we should work to call a second constitutional convention or something. The senate and Supreme Court have got to go at minimum.
