I’m usually a very kind and polite person
:doubt:
I’m normally bound by social norms to not be an asshole unless I think someones lesser than me.
“No thanks.”
Very hard to say!
Yeah, always be nice to workers. They’re doing it to survive. If you need to berate someone go for a manager or anyone higher up I think.
The worst job I ever had was being a street canvasser in Manhattan for Greenpeace. I ran into a lot of these types who felt moral justification for berating me because I’d interrupted their day, or because, as one woman put it, she was “hangry”. One older guy started yelling at me and calling me a “useful idiot” for Putin when I asked if he wanted to donate. One guy claimed to be a witch. The final interaction was an old man who growled at me to “get a real fucking job”. I was 21. I think a lot of people are walking around with pretty high levels of ambient frustration due to a multitude of factors that come with living in an empire in decline, and are looking for the first possible outlet to vent these frustrations in what they feel is a “safe” way. Usually, that means abusing young minimum wage workers.
I feel that so much. Two of the worst jobs I had were gathering signatures for petitions (less than min wage usually cus you were paid per signature) and trying to get people off the street to do those bus celebrity house tours in Hollywood (about min wage. It was like $3/hr + “commission”).
That was worse than I was ever treated in retail.
