Edit: If socialism ever actually comes from America, it will be born from its left traditions where anti-racism has been a key component for literally over a century, with roots going back to the abolitionists. Saying Racism would be a key component of American socialism is the same as saying Socialism can’t actually win in America.
Can it though? There are people who say that the US must cease to exist before it can even happen. As socialists, should we seek the destruction of the US or should we legitimize the idea of the US?
I dont doubt that Socialism can come to America. But if someone advertises “Socialism with American characteristics” to me, I think more of American exceptionalism surrounding democratic socialist policies. The idea of an American identity itself is so reactionary that a socialist state would have to distance itself from it
