Can it though? There are people who say that the US must cease to exist before it can even happen. As socialists, should we seek the destruction of the US or should we legitimize the idea of the US?

Third-worldists do, and I disagree with them and that tendency. Regardless of what you believe, the premise of this thread is what Socialism with American Characteristics would look like.
